Last here in 2013, some things have changed but not the old town and the grain stores, elevated on saddle stones to keep the rodents out. . Up earlyish to enjoy the cooler weather for a walk round the old town, the real bonus being we avoided the crowds.

By the time we’d completed the circuit and found a cafe for coffee and Tarta de Santiago, the famous almond cake, hoards of tourists had arrived. We felt very smug.
Fondly remembered, the marina is efficient with lovely facilities but the building housing “the shopping experience” is all but dead.
Had a delicious meal at a tapas restaurant on a terrace overlooking the estuary, trying amongst other things the local razor clams. Had seen crowds digging for them at low water earlier.
A perfect ending to C’s week with us.
