F very pleased with his new jam cleat installation (the middle one) for the running backstay control lines. Running backstays are only required in strong winds when using the smaller staysail. Being attached 2/3 of the way up the mast it puts a lot of strain on the mast by bending it. So the mast needs to be supported with this extra stay. Normally they are brought back to the cockpit in rough conditions so this modification allows it to be done without having to leave the cockpit. A safety issue when at sea. Everyone seems to have a different solution from enormous bungees to various blocks and tackle. It’s only taken 14 years to come up with this solution. So we’ll see!!! ![]() While Europe has been suffering a heatwave, there’s been quite a lot of rain and wind and we’re still waiting for a weather window. At the moment Saturday looks a good option. Third time A has done the “final” laundry and shop. There’s not going to be a fourth! Here’s hoping….. Have a new neighbour. An old Dutch three masted schooner, Oosterschelde, built in 1918, arrived on the ferry dock and is being used for educational visits. It is the largest restored Dutch sailing ship. ![]() |
