Left the anchorage in thick fog/ mist/low cloud. Whatever it was, visibility was very poor. We lost an hour’s sleep due to the hour’s time difference between Spain and Portugal but made sure we left at high tide at 9:30 so conditions were as benign as possible. Even so, the swirling currents kept knocking us off course until we passed the fort and were out of the estuary into the open sea. Big sigh of relief.
Very grateful for the radar and the AIS which alerts us if any vessels are close by. It does not appear to be transmitting our position as we are still apparently in Figueira da Foz, according to the various apps.
Expected the fog to dissipate by mid morning, but It stayed with us the entire trip and only cleared an hour or so after anchoring in Praia de Panxón near Baiona early afternoon. Little or no wind again so had to motor the entire way.
Arrived exhausted from having to be super vigilant but not too tired to go ashore and enjoy our first beer in Spain and a wander about town.
