Just back from our Indian River trip with the
crew of “Spray” and led by Albert. The trip takes about two and a half hours
starting at 7 a.m –that is a good time to see some wildlife. Dominica has 365
rivers but this is the only one that is deep enough to take a boat. Albert
is a very good guide, very knowledgeable about the islands history and all the
flora and fauna along the river. Boats must not use their engines so
Albert rowed us. We saw various herons, finches, moorhens, iguanas sunning
themselves in the high branches of trees, humming birds, and trees with very
strange roots – bloodwood swamp trees. A very good trip enjoyed by all of
us –and we were glad not to see any snakes! Tomorrow we are off to the
capital of Dominica - Roseau – 18 miles along the coast, and then to
Martinique.
