Saturday 12th March
After breakfast we drove deeper into the
desert in search of a Bedouin camp. After an hour of driving and bashing through
the dunes and getting stuck in the sand a few times we come across a small
camp.
![]() ![]() The
extreme temperatures in the desert means that it is mostly uninhabited apart
from the local bedu who make a living herding camels.
![]() ![]() As we approach the camp we got
stuck in the sand, again.
![]() ![]() The lead car made it but we
were firmly stuck.
Reinforcements came from the
Bedouin camp, with a push and a pull we were free. The boys then helped to push
their truck which also got stuck in the sand.
![]() ![]() We were invited into their tent
and offered some fresh camel's milk, which was cool and creamy.
![]() Camels can go up to 15 days
without drinking and soak up water like a sponge when thirsty, guzzling up to
100 litres in 10 minutes. They can also travel 160 kilometres with out a
drink.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On the edge of the desert are
small developments with pens for camels...........An oasis in the
desert
![]() A mirage...did the camels think
it was water!
![]() The long drive
back.
