Tanna

Sunday 1st
August Along with
Pete and Carol (BaliBlue) we flew to Tanna to visit Mount Yasur Volcano.
Tanna is south of Port Vila and 40 minutes later we landed at White Grass airport, Lenakel. A small sign pointed to the baggage claim area, an open window separating the runway from the airport terminal.
The transport and our drivers Bags collected, we were met by Isaac who took us to meet Mancy, our driver for the next two days. We climbed into the truck, dropped Isaac at his home and then started the two-hour journey to the volcano stopping to pick up Mancy’s wife Sarah along the way. The journey was an adventure in itself, the roads are full of huge potholes and at times had us hanging on for dear life.
The single track road that takes you across the island and the volcano
Mancy and Sarah..............................Shooting lava It was dark when we arrived.Armed with torches we had a short climb to the rim, standing just meters away we were treated to a magnificent fireworks display, with molten rock flying into the sky.The level of activity fluctuates between 1 and 4, it was reaching level 3 and Mancy was getting anxious about us being so close, so after one more photo it was time to leave and head to our accommodation for the night, Sunrise Bungalows.
