En route to Bonaire

12:25.109N 66:21.676W Thursday 21st January En Route to Bonaire I spoke to soon, the Caribbean swell has turned out to be the
Atlantic swell after all! We had had steady wind speeds of 12-15 knots for
about 12 hours then as the sun was setting last night the wind picked up and
Blue Magic slowly crept past us. By midnight we had 25 knots of wind and large
rolling waves. At times it was like being on a sleigh ride, we would be picked
up on a wave then we'd surf along the top for a while, other times the back of
the boat would skid from side to side like a waltzer at a fairground. We are currently sailing along the Venezuelan coast about 100
miles off shore. There have been reports of piracy along this coast, so we are
not reporting our positions on the daily roll call, we just say how far we are
from our destination. Because we are sailing within a few miles of Roundabout
and Blue Magic we are able to keep in contact with each other via the VHF which
is comforting especially at night. All day the winds have been between 22- 30
knots making it very rocky and rolly, cooking has been a challenge and our
evening meal ended up on the floor at one stage! We have 95 miles to go and should be in Bonaire about 3 pm
tomorrow. Confidentiality: This e-mail and its attachments are intended for the above named only and may be confidential.
