Tuesday 16th March
We are loving the island of Santa
Cruz, there are lovely restautants, lovely bars and great shops. It's a very
trendy place and the people are so friendly.
Kim, Jane and arrived on the
Friday, so a lot of catching up was done over lunch and dinner later on in the
evening. Paul and Jack were ill again so it was just a girly evening. The next
morning we ventured up to the top of the town on
to the fruit and veg market.

boat we stumbled across the sail/shoe makers!
![]() The next day we were up
bright and early to get to the Darwin centre to see lonesome George. The sun was
shining and the heat was unbearable so it was quite a quick trip but we saw
George and other giant tortoises, as well as lots of baby tortoises.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the afternoon
it was a rally meal at Angermeyer Point, a restaurant just at the entrance
to the anchorage. We had tuna and meat fresh off the BBQ, Pina Coladas and then
took a short stroll to the beach just around the corner.
![]() ![]() ![]() On Monday Amy, Jack and
Simon from Raylah set off exploring, heading for Las Grietas which is a
saltwater lagoon further inland surrounded by 50-60 ft cliffs. Of course the
boys were boys and kept jumping off the rocks each time getting higher and
higher. Although they didn't quite make it as high as the locals who were
jumping from the very top.
![]() ![]() That night it was the
rally briefing and meal which would be held inland at a beautiful restaurant.
The briefing lasted about 3 hours and then there was plenty of time for playing
in the pool and socialising. The BWR always hold photo competitions and the
latest was the 'Best Equator ceremony picture'. Of course we entered but we
didn't really expect to win, however, David Balfour the British consulate judged
the competition and awarded Jackamy with first prize!

3 out of the 5 on the train were 22, 23 and 27 would you!?!
Tuesday was also set to be
an action packed day but myself, Jane, Kim and Amanda started the day off with a
relaxing stroll around the shops. When we took a coffee break we didn't expect
to be so entertained by the fish market that was opposite the cafe. The
fishermen were chopping up the huge yellow fin tuna whilst the pelicans were
jumping all over the surface trying to pinch some. Some were content fighting
for the scraps down on the the floor with the sea lions but some were much
braver and ventured onto the worktops. One even managed to pinch a whole 2 ft
tuna and get away with it!
![]() ![]() ![]() The evening was to be
spent celebrating Jerermy from Chsalonina's 60th birthday. A party had been
arranged up at the kiosks and we were all to dress up. The men as women and the
women were to be Jeremy's harem. The men were all a little to excited about this
- it was quite worrying. Anyway everyone made a huge effort and a fantastic
night was had yet again with all of the other ralliers. Amy and Jack stumbled
home with Steve at 03.00 while myself and Paul managed to drag ourselves away a
few hours earlier. A good night was had by all!
