I went for a short walk above Raufarhofn. The
landscape is totally different to the mountains of East Iceland and the town has
a different feel - tundra rather than fjord?
![]() We set off round for Kopasker and came north of the arctic circle (I think, still not being
exactly sure what or where it is) this afternoon. I was trying to set 2 genoas so they can be rolled away together in
a way we devised when Guy was on board. This is the first opportunity
to try it, as there has been no downwind sailing since.
Today is downwind as we have an east wind, so I
took the genoa down and hauled it back up with an additional block. I then
used this to haul the second genoa up. This was strenuous and the sun
warm, so I took off both jackets (arctic fleece and
waterproof) and wore a sun hat. I am back with fleece and ear-flap
hat now as the sun has gone in.
The rig seems to work: You can see the red
edged genoa and blue edged one both flying.
I am sure there will be problems, but they are yet
to be found.
