Here we are, New York, the final destination for
this year. Our arrival in NY was too
dramatic, the lights are one thing, but too many boats in the dark had left us a
bit shaken.
We got into this marina, tied up and went along to
try to get out for food, but the gates were locked. Never mind, there is
still plenty of food on the boat (thank you Lorna). Julian and I
walked back from the gate past a yacht with a couple of girls on deck. We
asked if they could let us out of the dock, so we could get a burger.
They called another girl from below,
who said yes, but why didn't we come for a beer? We explained that Tom and
Calum were still on our boat and they said "bring them", so we did.
The four of us came back and sat drinking beer on
deck, when the invitation was extended to supper. Never knowingly refusing
a good offer, we again accepted. Sonny, who invited us, works on the
yacht, "Hound". She is a racing yacht, much larger but of a similar
age to ours, which has won the Bermuda race.

Brown in the Jersey Marina, just across from Manhattan.
![]() On the next two days we saw Central Park and
walked much of 5th Avenue. We visited the Metropolitan Museum, which seems
to have more Egyptian items than Egypt. We had a meal out with some
of Julian's friends and tried coffee and bagels. These people are skating,
although it is not that cold.
New York, as the rest of the US, is very
friendly: If you stop to look at a map on a street corner, someone is
likely to come and offer directions. The New York Subway is much like the
tube in London, although we are on a different one, The Path, just to
confuse me.
![]() We went up the Empire State Building, but not
in the crystal sunlight that has come back in today after thunderstorms.
![]() Attempts at artistic evening shots were
made.
Tom, Julian and Calum have flown back to the UK, so
peace at last. Out all day and cards in the evenings does not leave much
time for blogging. The forecast is for gales tomorrow so I will wait for a
day before setting off back up to Maine to leave the boat.
My computer gave up yesterday, so this is from
its replacement. You can tell me if they work.
