We ran and reached in plenty of wind all day
yesterday. I thought of carrying on through the night, then of going back
into Newport, but ended up in Point Judith just before Newport. It was
getting dark and unlit buoys in the dark, as well as occasional
lobster floats made me stop.
We wound into Point Judith, another well protected
river and tied up at a pontoon. Then supper and sleep. We were out
again before sunrise this morning. Not too early at this time of
year.
I tried twice more to send a photo from the
old backup machine and still failed. It showed us running downwind with
the staysail poled out to windward giving wind across the genoa which flapped
uselessly before.
It showed the bright cloudless sunshine
too. It is so clear that morning and evening you can see the waves against
the horizon. The horizon is all waves. Refraction also makes
trees and islands beyond the horizon, float above the sea.
Round the UK and in daytime here, the horizon
is flat at sea with ocasional waves above it.
