First full day at sea completed with fresh winds and made 145 nautical miles. Gusts of up to 20kts and we recorded over 8kts boat speed a number of times.
The fleet is now spread out and we can generally see no more than 4-5 boats on the horizon so we were surprised to hear over the radio that two yachts had nearly collided!
The watch pattern working well with everyone showing up for watch without having to be woken, but the pattern does not allow a long good nights sleep - therefore a degree of tiredness
all the time. I don't get on with the long night watches - it goes interminably slow whilst on deck, but very quickly in your bunk. still heading south south west and should be passing north of The Cape Verde Islands within 75 miles on Saturday. The fresh vegetables already suffering in the heat with two heads of broccoli jettisoned over the back as inedible. A tomato and two lemons grew fluffy beards to compete with the crew. No-one shaved as yet (nor showered as far as I can see) - but it's calmer today so showers are on the "to do" list. Still no fish landed so we doubled our chances and put a second line out. Fish 1 - 0 Mojo.
Grey and overcast today with a calm sea and a long swell. Yesterday we found ourselves towards the back of the fleet but gradually pulling our way back to the main pack...
About 10% of the distance covered thus far and we are all settling in to the routine of watch / sleep / cook / clean with long periods of nothing to do in between. Need to add in wash in those long periods...
