So, no day on this trip is uneventful. Offshore Sailing always provides a
new perspective, time to think , some new experience, but also makes you solve
issues, as its only you, being 100 miles offshore. The team I can say
quite clearly has gelled, we've all found our own speciality, 'Matt all-weather
Wybrow', 'Hannah I only drink pints Young', 'Adey precision sail Pagdin' and
'Paul Bloody Hell Worthington'. Paul's special skill is to
never lose his rag and permanently have a heart rate under 100 BPM, but you
know when something's wrong, as the air is filled with a strong Yorkshire
"Bloody Hell". Another delightful day of weather was before us on Thursday, good
winds in the morning, with Wind Warlock Paggers finding well over 9 knots
out of the boat for an extended period of time. All was going well aboard
the good ship Mojo with a fantastic cockpit lunch, served with the finest
Spanish lager, of Pagdin soup with a charcuterie and cheese board and
skipper's home made bread. However, we spotted a line trailing the boat
and not a good one. We stopped the boat and ship's diver, (Han) was called in,
she jumped in calling back, 'The water is beautiful', however added how
*&%$^&* scary it was with a 50' boat bobbing around in front of you
and realising the string is caught around the prop which is dead centre under
the hull. All weather Wybrow was only too pleased to strip off and dive in, and
Han and Matt teamed to figure out a solution. The boat hook was passed down and
Matt remembered his fencing action from school to push and poke the string until
catching it and passing it up. Adey and Paul then worked the prop with the
engine fwd and astern and it came free....the string will be coming home!!
We then continued into the evening, with skipper's Tuna, bean, chilli
and leek special... a warming meal, which we hoped would lead to a fantastic
overnight sail. Unfortunately, it was a difficult night with highs and
lows, difficult winds, but we came through it and winds picked up in the morning
and we remain hopeful for a pre-10am alongside in Las Palmas on Saturday with a
VERY long lunch to follow (Han 'I only drink pints' Young leading the way) and
then flying home.....its been a wonderful experience.
