Departed Vlore 10am for Sazan Island. Tied up alongside in the small harbour. Sazan is a national park, no shops or restaurants. Unfortunately, we must leave by the 7pm curfew. We walked up the hill track to abandoned military buildings, houses and many bunkers. There are, apparently, 3,500 bunkers on the island and over 750,000 across Albania. They were constructed from the 1960s to the 1980s during the paranoid Hoxha dictatorship era, for protection against potential invaders. In his mind they included Greece, Yugoslavia and former Soviet allies. The cost drained Albanian finances, diverting funds from roads and essential services. We departed Sarzan at 16:00 for Orikum.

Tied along side small old Sazan military harbour. Good depth and very clear water. No restaurants or residents on the island, just a ranger.

Sazan Island, an old military station in the Hoxha dictatorship era. The islands is very attractive, verdant predominantly conifer forrest.

Typical of the 3,500 bunkers on this small island. Apparently 750,000 were constructed, under the belief of the paranoid dictator, Hoxha, they protect the Albanian population from invaders. In the process he sent the country broke.
