Waiting here for notification of our date to go through the Panama Canal. A bit frustrating but understandable given the difficulties everyone is facing given the water shortages which mean a reduced number of locks. Obviously the priority is given to the tankers and the little boats like us have to wait their turn. World Arc were very good, working with their Panama agent. We did a day trip to visit the Embera people who live on the Rio Chagres in a traditional fashion. We travelled up the river in their dug-out canoes, with large outboard on the back. It felt a little voyeuristic, but they have chosen to embrace some tourism in order to create income to maintain their traditional tribe existence. The Embera had to move from their original home in Darien - formerly Colombia - due to the violence in that area in the 1970s.
