The morning dawned sunny with a gentle breeze blowing off the shore, a perfect morning for a sail. After a wash and breakfast, I prepared Sylph for sea and at 0930 the anchor was aweigh and we were sailing out of Twofold Bay under a double reefed main (I was being cautious in case there were any surprises outside of the Bay), and the full jib.

By 1100 we were a couple of miles clear of the coast and conditions were still benign so I shook out the reefs as we turned towards the north. Initially the wind was from the SW but as we proceeded up the coast the wind faded and then swung into the NE so that now we are close hauled on the starboard tack, a little west of our desired course but close.

The forecast over the next several days is for mostly light and variable winds so I expect it will be slow passage to Sydney. I am going to guess and ETA of sometime Thursday to cover the 200 miles, though with a little luck we may do better than this. Also I will likely use the engine a bit more if needed as I am confident that if it does fail us we can safely sail into Port Jackson without it, and a new injection pump should be waiting for us on our arrival.

All is well.
