Day trip to Lisbon
This morning, we rallied early to make the most of our planned day in Lisbon.

Breakfast and coffee finished and after a cold shower and hair wash we took the dinghy ashore and walked to the station.

Catherine and Nigel saved four euros having proved their pensionable age and our two tickets cost us 10 euros, return.

It was a stopping train all the way and took about 40 minutes. Upon arrival we found the tourist information centre, got a map and marked up the places we wanted to see.

I was the only one never to have visited before.

After a coffee in a plaza where the latest recruits to the police were passing out, we headed off.

The Castle of Sao Jorge, the city Cathedral, Miradoura do Santa Luzia for fabulous views of the city, the historic Moorish quarter of Alfama and a trip on a tram were all on the list. We found them all but queues to access the castle, the cathedral and the tram were lengthy and not part of our plan! So we viewed from outside and walked on…. and on…. and on!

Lots of lovely back streets, plenty of steps, and eventually a pavement side restaurant for well deserved drinks and lunch. We all opted for cheese and meat tapas selection and fish of one sort or another.

A meander back to the station, noting that the city was overflowing with police and camera crews (we surmised it was something to do with the snap election that had just happened), purchase of a Christmas decoration to add to my collection and we were just in time to hop on the train back to Cascais.

Tomorrow we are moving to Oeiras marina for comfort as there are stronger winds forecast and it will be somewhere we haven’t been before. It’s only five miles so a short hop!  Power, laundry and “facilities” that have an excellent write up……such are the joys of a cruisers life!
