Southbound Day 8 - Port Washington to New York via Hells Gate and the East River

17 September 2012 This has got to be one of great trips that can be made into a major
city by yacht. It also requires a little planning as the state of the
tide is critical to a good passage. Once again we were blessed with
excellent bright weather and a time of slack water at Hells Gate of 11:30, so a
positively civilised departure from The

on Rikers Island through Hells Gate where we the Harlem River joins the East
River and then down the east side of Manhattan. We took an excursion up
the Hudson River to show off the views and covered 32nm in all ending up in the
