Flamingo Bay to Tyrell
Bay is a 30nm slog to
windward. The first 15nm we were able to motor sail on the wind at a good
rate. Having rounded the underwater volcano exclusion zone (you do not get
many of those in the River Crouch!) we probably made the wrong decision and
motored directly into the wind to Tyrell
Bay. The benefit was
that it gave the batteries a really good charge the down side was that it was
slow going. We left Flamingo Bay at 0730 and dropped anchor in Tyrell Bay
at 1330 which wasn’t too bad considering the current which appeared to be
consistently against us.
The previous two times that we have anchored in Tyrell Bay it has been
somewhat grey and forbidding, today the sun shone, the water was blue and it
appeared a much different place.
Mike and Jean arrived later in Sestina and we had an impromptu Happy
Hour with them.
