Hot bread rolls enjoyed for breakfast an a Black
Cake for afternoon tea to look forward to, we set off north on our 40 mile
passage to Carriacou. The wind was from the east as we hugged the coast
with Geneo out and the main up we were creaming along at 6-7 knots. As we
cleared the north of the island, the wind came round and the seas increased,
soon we were "bashing to windward". This was nothing like the experience
of the head wind we had coming down the English Channel wrapped up in our
fowlies, soaking wet and cold with 26 knots of wind, here we were in our tee
shirts and shorts with the hot sun, 15 knots of wind and warm goffers (waves and
spray over the deck of the boat ending their passage in the cockpit,
usually on the skipper or any crew member sitting in front of him, who maybe saw
it coming and ducked just in time or maybe didn't!). We both enjoyed it
immensely even tacking was not an effort, once we remembered how to do it,
or maybe it is simply that three tacks was not too arduous in a 40 mile
passage! We also enjoyed being out on the big seas and seeing the Boobies
and flying fish once more. This was real sailing and it was
fun!
