Monday was another beautiful day sunny and warm with a light breeze. I went and checked out with th harbourmaster who only charged us for 2 nights instead of the three we had spent. He told me there was no hurry for us to go and if we wanted to stay another night it would be free! The total fee including water and electricity was 44 euros. Such a lovely island with such welcoming people. We left around midday and sailed for 2 or 3 hours, the wind then died completely and we motored over a glassy sea. Joe spotted a whale on the bow and we drifted up to a female sperm whale and her calf, we were only about 15 metres away and they remained on the surface, quite unfazed by us. Joe and Karin got some great pictures, we stayed with them for about 15 minutes until they lazily dived and we carried on our journey. At present it is 0500 and I am on they daybreak watch, we are about 8 hours from San Miguel, the largest island in The Azores, we are planning to stay here a few days before a brief visit to Santa Maria, a little island 50 miles to the South from where we will start our homeward journey to Portimao.
