Day 3
South Atlantic Ocean
DTD : 3,416 NM (124NM)
Another decent day sailing, lovely wind and the waves are not so high. Mainly blue skies but a few big grey clouds too.
Still worried about our little escapade yesterday, so first job of as soon as Ian got up is to have a good look at the furling system at the top of the mast. The binoculars came out and he went all around the deck for a complete 360 view of the fitting up there. He came back visibly relieved, nothing untoward up there that he can see, nothing obvious anyway, so we got some more wings out.
It would seem that the only damage done was to the skipper... he a bit stiff this morning, I can see that, not that he has mentioned it. He must have pulled a muscle in his back with all the shenanigans, too much pulling. As per usual, no complaining from him, he is bearing it all very stoically, no wailing, no drama, typical British stiff upper lip... we've built an empire type thing! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, just let's have a cup of tea and all will be well! And I couldn't possibly have a couple of ibuprofen tablets, couldn't feel the pain! Need to feel the pain you see, otherwise you won't know when it's gone! Hopefully a couple of days should see him right, and in the meantime, i will make a bit of a fuss... get his glasses for him or his book, letting him sleep more than the regulatory 4 hours... he better enjoy that! Playing Nurse is not my thing, well, not unless i have the whole outfit, including he little upside down watch!
We've changed the clock yesterday, for the first time, we'll have a few clock change on this passage. It was a delight to have a 6am sunrise, I celebrated by having coffee and pain perdu... or eggy bread as Ian insist to call it, made the whole boat smell of cinnamon, it was lovely. Not made that for years, and it still taste of childhood!
We've had to fold the wings this afternoon, the wind is blowing us toward Brazil, and we need to go further north. We'll see where we are tomorrow and hopefully we'll have the wings back out again... love the wings!
Just starting my first night watch, and Ian is providing the sound track, a gentle breathing in and out...
Better get my music out! And the wind is getting up, always on my watch!
