Spent a couple of days in very reasonable Almeria Marina, 13 Euros a
night, inc electricity & water, plus the temperature has gone up several
degrees and we have bright sunshine, so we decided to stay an extra day or
two ! Almeria is a lovely town, with a very interesting old part, full
of bars and restaurants, all there for the sampling ! We were grateful
of some warm sun, after our chilly and wet time in Calpe, and realised
that this climate must have something to do with the thousands and
thousands of acres of plastic covering an equal amount of tomatoes, for
which this region is famous .... Finally departed Almeria for our trip
to Gibraltar, and picked up some wind during our overnight sail, so had a
cracking sail approaching the "Rock" in bright sunshine, accompanied by
numerous dolphins, all wanting to show off their acrobatic skills.

Our first sights of Gibraltar waters were countless large tankers all at
anchor, plus one half submerged tanker wreck that, we later discovered,
had been involved in a collision with an oil tanker some two months
previously... a spooky sight.

Moored in Marina Bay and spent some time preparing the yacht for our
arriving crew, and walking miles to the Morrisons supermarket, full of
strange looking English speaking people... however, also discovered
litres of Gordons Gin at £4.50 (GBP, yes!) so can't be all bad! Our
berth in Marina Bay was about 200 metres from the main Gibraltar runway so
a birds eye view of the air traffic for us.
