We said our goodbyes to our hosts and drove to Havana to collect our passports. We parked the car near the non existent embassy, in fact too near and we were told to move up the road by a non existent US guard.

We were expected so when we arrived at the desk a phone call was made and I was allowed in to collect everyones passportsa and visas: strange, all this security and then they had over 4 peoples passports to me. I suppose we were the only four applicants and they new we were together.

We drove on to Matazas, an industrial town, again with a lot of history and monuments but not too much else, nothing to buy, little in the way of bars or restaurants. Overnight we decided the following day we would drive to Varadero before making our way back to our boats in Cienfuegos.

Varadero is a tourist strip of land with maybe 40, 4 or 5 star all inclusive hotels. The area is quite nice but different to real Cuba, full of tourist shops and markets selling the same Che Guevara hats, T shirts and paintings. They do have some nice things but we'd been there, done that, and got the 'T'Shirt! and beret!!!

Back aboard Chaser and Waylander we chilled out in our own little bit of luxury, having been travelling and driving for a week or more, nice!
