Came on watch again at 0300 this morning. Motoring, very little wind so we are making a NE course rather than following the rhumb line to NW Spain because there will be some rather strong N winds later which will make gaining distance to the north rather difficult. It's somewhat rolly and bouncy as we motor into the small swell.

News of the latest traumas on the good ship Allegria. Is that trauma for the crew or does Allegria experience it as well. The simplest issue was my phone which decided it wasn't going to accept any charge. In the end this was easily solved as we found a little shop in Horta with a very personable young man who looked at the problem and declared that we could come back in 20 minutes and he would have it fixed. In the event 24 hours and 45 euro later it was fixed. I was impressed.

Having motored away from Horta, leaving at about 1300 yesterday we noticed a 'hot electrical smell'. Subsequently found the alternator was not charging the batteries. There are 2 alternators on the engine, one charges the engine starter battery and the other, much larger one charges the domestic batteries. It was this domestic battery charger which appears to have burnt out. That is one element of redundancy out of the window as it leaves us with only the generator to charge the batteries. Not a problem - we hope.

So with 875 miles to go lets hope all goes well.
